iPhone is cheapest in India. You nitwit.
If I had to kill a dog every time I heard someone whine about how the iPhone is overpriced in India, my mother would willingly put me on trial for a death sentence. Even press the button on the electric chair. And before that happens, I thought I'd write up a post so that the soggy readers won't be those whiners.
The iPhone is cheapest in India, or at least as cheap as it is in the USA.
1. The iPhone costs $200 in the US, but with a legally binding contract requiring you to sign up for a minimum plan of around $40/month for 2 years. That rounds up to somewhere around $2000 for the entire phone. You cannot buy the phone for $200 abroad and get it here, cause someone's gotta pay that monthly rental back home. If that was the case, O2 is giving a free iPhone with their £75/mo plan.
2. Apple did announce that there will be a contract free phone with AT&T for $600. Now, before you say anything else, add $40 tax to that bringing it to a sum of around Rs. 28k, same as in India.
3. India cannot have a phone tied to a contract because TRAI will not allow it. And that is a good thing btw. We don't want corporates locking us up in their grand scheme of looting the public.
So what does this mean for poor dear you? You aren't gonna get a better deal on the iPhone anywhere. No matter where you go. So is the iPhone an expensive device? Yes, it is. And is it awesome nonetheless? Yes, it is. The iPhone is so freakin' awesome, I would be willing to pay 40k for it. But luckily I was lucky, and I ended up paying 20k for the grey market 1st Gen iPhone (which btw, you can snag for around 18k these days).

2> No Autofocus and No Flash
3> No Bluetooth file transfer to other bluetooth devices
4> No support for Stereo bluetooth headset (A2DP is not supported)
5> No support for 3rd party applications
6> No Flash or Java supported by the browser
7> Internet 8GB/16GB HDD cannot be used as a HDD to store personal data
8> Song/Videos can be transferred to the phone only using iTunes and cannot be transferred back.

10> Does not support Instant messaging clients like yahoo messenger/ Google Talk!

1. Yeah right. Tell me a 5MP phone-cam that takes better pics than my 3MP Nikon.
2. Again. Cause that tiny little flash makes phone-cam pictures amazingly clear at night.

No camera-phone. Not yet at least, can produce great results. And the ones with the 5MPs+ just add bulk and waste precious battery life. The iPhone takes decent pics for use onscreen.
I'm not a coder, but from what I hear Xcode for iPhone is something really amazing. Everything is right there.
The big problem with you seems to be iTunes. If you hate iTunes for some reason, then iPhone is not for you. Apple makes sure that everything gels well together, everything works out of the box, and iTunes is the only way to do that. If you think copy pasting and manually dragging stuff around is your cup of tea, then iPhone is not for you.
Besides, my post was mainly about how the iPhone is cheapest in India. The iPhone is awesome whether or not it is cheapest.

For me it Sony errison phones.
Great cam, music, sound, flash, lens, can browse email, send sms n mms, data transfer on the fly.
and yeah..batterlife 2-3 days with cam and flash usage.
I just miss the coverflow and a big display;)

Awesome post and great replies to comments. Everyone is parroting shit like 'cannot forward SMS'. I even read a post on Rediff which said'I read in a Telugu paper that you cannot send an SMS on the iPhone'. Jesus. It's a frigging iPOd + internet device + phone. So please don't go around comparing any other phone with this. There are drawbacks, but the positives outweigh the negatives.
Airtel packed it with 500MB data usage per month and they claims that you save 6K over an year. Cant they have direct pricing to 25K.. even if i had million @ n my pocket I wouldn't have bought at this price... Definitly it will put daint in Apple image .... Folks out there dono all that goobi wrote & they scold Apple like anything.. Airtel sucks vodafone too sucks a lot
